Spatial-variation in the level of Primary Education in the selected blocks of Murshidabad District in West Bengal, India, Manab GHOSH, Debjani ROY

Abstract
The research paper deals with spatial variation in the level of primary education concerning various educational amenities in the selected blocks of Murshidabad district in West Bengal, India. To measure the level of basic educational development, a composite Z- scores index has been developed based on ten indicators from the DISE report 2018. Different indicators such as gender gap in literacy, percentage of literate persons, pupil-teacher ratio, enrollment of girls in school, the density of schools, primary schools infrastructure facilities have been used to measure block-level disparity, and blocks are categorized based on Composite Z-Score value. The result shows variation in the different blocks of Murshidabad district with some of the faring much better than the rest. This study will be tried to examine the spatial variations in the levels of educational development in the selected blocks of the Murshidabad district of West Bengal and to assess the relative position of blocks in terms of the level of educational development at the primary level.
