THEORETICAL OVERVIEWS ON SELF-REGULATED LEARNING STRATEGIES

Abstract

Self-regulated learning refers to the processes by which individual learners attempt to monitor and control their own learning. Self-regulatedlearning involves learning strategies and mental processes thatlearners deliberately engage to help themselves learn and performbetter academically. Many researchers have agreed with the importance of self-regulated learning for students at all academic levels. The self-regulation skills can be taught in different ways, learned, and controlled. Students can be taught to become more self-regulated learners by acquiring specific strategies that are both successful for them and that enable them to increase control over their own behaviour and environment. The individual set of common self-regulation strategies that are usually used by successful students are divided into three categories: personal, behavioral and environmental strategies. The teachers must help students to gain self-regulation and teach them the self-regulation strategies.
